ABOUT THE ACCIDENT...
If you have entered this site, then you are already a friend! For those of you that don't know the story, on December 3, 2011, Marcus, Lori and Bry were at Jason and Jen's daughters', Caileigh and Gabby's birthday party. He was on a tumble track, and when he reached the end and made that final jump, he landed on the hard bar at the end of the track and both patellar tendons were ruptured. He was brought to UPMC Presbyterian Hospital and on the 5th had to have extensive surgery.
Anchors were drilled into each leg to attach the patellar tendons and bring the kneecaps (that had ridden up on his thighs) back into place. There was other considerable damage to cartilage and the sleeve. This is a life changing accident for Marcus and those of you who know him well, know just how life changing this will be. He will have to spend a minimum of 4 weeks in a nursing home in a wheelchair and will under go months of rehab. He may never walk the same...he may have a permanent damage and there is a 25% chance of re-injury. On Jan 18, 2012, Marcus was readmitted to Presbyterian Hospital with a large pulmonary embolism (blood clots in the lungs), a very serious and life-threatening condition.
FUND RAISING EFFORTS...
Marcus is no stranger to adversity and he is a tough guy to hold down! As a child, he had open heart surgery at the age of 3 and was told that he would never be able to play football, basketball, wrestle or participate in anything strenuous.....but Marcus is a fighter and no one tells Marcus he can't do something! As a result of his swimming prowess and determination, he was swimming 5 miles a night, 5 nights a week with Jason, and by the time he was 12, all of those restrictions were lifted.
All of us that believe in Marcus, believe he can pull off another miracle and will not let this get him down, but it is a long hard road that he has in front of him, and he will need a little help from his friends and family! These funds will be used to help to defray costs of out of pocket medical expenses and living expenses, since they will have no income until he can work.
Mary Mele Abel of Mele Bros. and Sister Florist held a very successful fundraiser on January 7th! Our next fundraiser will be on Feb. 4th, 2012 at Mullen’s by PNC Park. Bubba Snider from 100.7 FM radio station and owner of Mullen’s by PNC Park will hold a fundraiser for Marcus at 7PM for the UFC 143 fight.
